Funktopia: The Dark Tower

Jonathan Gilmore and the Funktopia™️ crew premiered their latest production The Dark Tower, honoring the salons held by Harlem Renaissance pioneer A’Lelia Walker. Walker was known to offer her home as a safe space for Black intellects, artists and queer people, creating a hub for black genius. Funktopia stretched the boundaries of theater with a mix of choreopoem and the avant-garde, bringing their brand of Afro-Futurism, raw energy, musicality, and passion. The team held healing circles, youth outreach, and therapeutic theater 101.
