Old Idea Pictures presents: The Records & The Ruse
The Records & The Ruse is a documentary theatre performance that transforms undisclosed law-enforcement files and cross-border state archives into scripted re-enactments of a Baltimore Black Panther frame-up. Adapted from original journalism and documentary research, the work uses devised theatre to weave archival investigation directly into the performance. Pre-recorded media, news archives, and legal evidence are projected to complement stage performances, immersing audiences in the archive as the story unfolds. The performance becomes a collective act of witnessing, re-examining evidence and reshaping cultural memory. Drawing on newly uncovered newsreels, FBI case files, and police reports obtained through FOIA litigation, The Records & The Ruse reveals a pivotal chapter of Baltimore’s Black Power history through an immersive, cinematic theatrical experience.
No photography or videography is allowed during performances.
Running Time: 90 minutes with no intermission. There will be a talkback after every performance.
