Step into a realm of darkness and starlight, hope and fear, music and dreams. Join a cast of ethereal characters as they search for meaning amid wishes and nightmares in a dazzling dreamscape of morphing circumstances. Vesper is a surrealistic exploration of humanity’s relationship to the night and the rituals we invoke to heal, find peace, and ward off danger.
Vesper is an experimental, non-linear, devised theatrical performance. Created through several months of collaborative incubation, workshops, and refinement, Vesper harnesses the dialogue of training and creation to present visceral, ensemble-centered theatre.
Rich physicality, poetic text, atmospheric sound, live music, and multimedia weave a vivid, theatrical tapestry of ritual and revelation–prepare to lose your footing and find your light.
No photography or video allowed.
Running time: About 75 minutes with no intermission.
Content Transparency: This play contains violence, loud noises, flashing lights, sexual situations, and theatrical haze and fog.
A Dream Play: If you're new to experimental theatre, thank you for taking a chance on something different! This play is nonlinear, so there’s no single plot that carries through the whole show. Instead, it unfolds like a dream–a “concert” of images/scenes that morph and connect in poetic rather than literal ways. Characters are fluid, responding to the shifting world around them. If you ever feel like you don't "get" something, don’t worry. Trust your instincts. There’s no wrong way to experience this performance. Thanks for joining us on this ride!
Sunday, October 19th is a "relaxed performance." A relaxed performance is a show that’s been adapted to suit people who might require a more relaxed environment when going to the theatre. This can mean any number of adjustments to make the experience more accessible. For Vesper, it means the following: house lights will remain on at a low level for the duration of the performance, rather than turning off; particularly loud moments will be volume-adjusted; moments with flashing lights will be adjusted to a lower, less bright/harsh level; and overall the typical "decorum" is more relaxed, so tend to physical needs by standing, stretching, using a fidget device, etc. While the show is not suggested for children, if you need to bring a child in a carrier, this is the show to do it!
