Audio

The Voxel hosts an advanced 10-channel surround speaker system in the theater. It can be easily configured for simple stereo audio playback or multichannel immersive audio. This flexibility also accommodates any audience seating arrangement or stage design. A similar quality 2-channel sound system is available in the Lobby as well.

A plug-and-play “Aux Box” is available for plugging a phone or laptop into The Voxel for audio playback to the stage and/or lobby. Wireless AirPlay from Apple devices is also available.

A d&b DS100 handles most of The Voxel’s audio routing via Dante. Most modern audio consoles can output Dante digital audio over an Ethernet connection. Computers can output multichannel audio over Dante using Dante Virtual soundcard.

Accommodations are provided for

  • Direct 1:1 inputs to all speakers
  • Stereo inputs - may be routed to theater or lobby
  • d&b Sound Objects - spatial audio in the theater

The Voxel does not have an intercom system, as there is no permanent tech booth to prevent the audience from hearing technical chatter.

Speaker Patching

If you are making changes to the standard 360 speaker arrangement, please let the TD know.

Sound Objects

d&b Sound Objects are Dante inputs that have a specific 2D location in the theatre. The DS100 will algorithmically adjust the signal to every speaker such that the audio appears to come from a point in space. The objects may be positioned using QLab or by the TD.

Networked Audio Devices

The Voxel’s production network is primarily handled by a Netgear ProSafe M4300-52G-PoE+ switch. The switch is designed to handle NDI, Dante, Art-Net, and other IP-based control technologies.
